Happy 28 Anniversary

Steve and I had a nice night to celebrate our anniversary. We had dinner at Red Lobster and then we saw Battle ship. I love spending time with him and he is still my best friend after all these years. Here's to many more....

Monet I'm not...

but here is my latest painting. I just finished it and found this frame and it does remind me of a monet alittle. I still love painting.

My quilt...

Is finished. I bought this when I was home for my brothers funeral and I have been working for three months off and on on it. I love it and this is the first one I have finished by myself. It is all done by hand; it is hand appliqués and hand quilted. I haven't gotten my Farmers Wife quilt back yet from the quilter who is finishing it for me. My sampler quilt is still on the rack and I am working on it also.

National Scrapbook Day

I wish I was home so I could scrapbook out in the Scrappin Shed today, but I won't get the chance since I am in Wheeling, WV at Steve's moms. She came home from the hospital on Tuesday and needed someone to stay with her do I am here for a week.

So I guess I'll just go scrapbook shopping instead. LOL

Where does time go.....

I am so overdue for a post. So much has been going on in my life. I just need to take a minute and take a deep breath.

We lost my brother after a long battle of liver cancer in February. I was able to make it home before he passed and say my goodbyes. So sad for our family. It turned into an extended stay because of problems with him being a veteran but I got to spend some quality time with all of my family.

We just got back from going to see my mom in Pa. at the nursing home and I was so blessed that she knew me and we had a good visit. Since we were so close to Lancaster, Pa we went there and I drug Steve into every quilt shop there was, he was a really good sport about it all. Then over to York, Pa so he could go through the Harley Davidson plant tour. Yes, I was good and very patient.

Our next stop was Wheeling, WV for Steve's moms surgery. She had a mass on her lung that was cancer and had to be removed. She is doing a little better but still in the hospital till May 1st. We got to spend time with all of the nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Then it was home for us and I thing we needed a vacation to rest from our vacation. LOL

I am working on my 3rd quilt and I love it my fingers don't seem to move fast enough. I'll post pics soon. Hope to post again soon

Just on the way...

back from Mary's cafe. Our friends are opening a cafe in Newsome, Va. and they ask to hang my paintings there. So I am humbled to think that someone else thinks that they are good.

So...

I said I would tell you about the Farmers Wife Sampler Quilt. In 1922 the Farmers wife magazine ran a contest with the question "would you want your daughter to marry a farmer" to their 750,000 subscribers. They had 7000 entries. Laurie Aaron Hird took these letters and they inspired her to make 111 blocks for the quilt. The blocks are only 6x6.

I started mine on December 10, 2011 and I finished the last block on January 19, 2012. I am now putting it together and I am loving how it it is turning out. There are flicker and yahoo groups of hundreds of women doing this quilt. They are doing it in all kind of colors and styles. I choose to make mine more true to the 1922's like the book. This is only my 2nd quilt and I am totally hooked.

I always wanted to learn....

how to quilt. The senior center that I take art classes at also offers a quilt class. I joined in September and I started my first quilt. This class teaches everything by hand, no sewing machine. I decided to make it in red of course and aqua (my new favorite colors). The first one you make is a a sampler quilt so this is mine. By thanksgiving I had it ready to sandwich together. It is now on my quilting frame and I am quilting it all by hand. Wish me luck!
